This story begins with a very simple man that married and amazing
women, the love of his life. "She told him she would like to build a home
some day" and as the days went buy she suggested a lot of property. Several days later
"she suggested that it be on a lake". The simple man Michael asked his wife
"Janet which of the two she would like. A lot of property or a lot on a lake." He
was shocked when she said both. Michael replied "I don't think we can do
both however he began looking for a large piece of property that was on a
lake." To his surprise he did find one listing with 14 acres on a private
lake. Both Michael & Janet went looking for this property and when they
arrived to the destination they simply could not find the property.
Michael says to his wife Janet that he was sorry and he did not think that
they would ever find a property that has both, he reiterated to his wife
you are simply going to need to choose a lake or a lot of property.
The very next day Michael got up to go to work as normal however his wife Janet had already left. Later that day he learned she had returned to that same location looking for this 14 acres on a lake and would you believe she found it. The 14 acres was purchased 7 days later. |
After a few years went by Janet began drawing floor plans with just a piece of paper and pencil. After taping three sheets of paper together (for each floor) and eleven months later Janet reveled her design drawings to Michael. They were amazing Janet had personally hand drew the Woods Chateau |
Michael began looking for a builder however to his surprise most all of the builders stated that they did not have the ability to build a home that was drawn in those hand drawings. Their was one builder that stated he had no problem with the project, however he refused to even try to estimate the cost. |
Michael was determined to build this home for his wife Janet so he realized he would have to be the builder. Meaning he would personally have to hire and manage each and every contractor. Michael would also be required to apply for permits and everything else that goes along with building this home. |
He began this journey by taking Janet's hand drawings to a structural engineer to determine what would be required structurally to build this home. After 7 months Michael received the results. Although the structural engineer had added a lot of steel I beams and steel post Not a single wall needed to be changed or moved in any way. Janet had contently placed each and every supporting wall perfectly where they need to be. |
Once Michael acquired the Structural Engineering Drawings,
Architectural Drawings as well as (Electrical, HVAC, Plot Plans & Plumbing
Plans With Perk Test) he went to the city to apply for the building
permit.
The day we received the building permit was filled with excitement and relief as we had two and a half years just in design and planning. If they only knew what would come next. they were about to begin a journey that would create a great deal of stress and challenges for both Michael & Janet over the next seven years that would effect each and every day of their lives. A true labor of love. |
If you were to ask Michael Or Janet about those seven years they
would tell you that they were and are very blessed pointing out things
like during that entire seven years Janet's father maintained the
entire 14 acres by himself without us even being asked to do so. Also they
would tell you about their amazing framer and completely outstanding tile
guy, flatwork specialists, dry wall crews, roofing crew, masons, HVAC crew
and more. More importantly both Michael & Janet thank God for Michael's
sister Michelle that proved to be a life saver when the project came to a
stall. Michael had to dismiss the current supervisor and then asked
Michelle, his twin sister, to assume the position of supervisor for the
project. Any one that has anything to do with this project will tell you
she did a amazing job and produced a occupancy certificate within a few
months of taking over the project. Michael & Janet Moved into the Woods Chateau in October of 2023 and both will tell you they absolutely love it and simply looking forward to spending more time with each other and the beautiful family God gave them.. |
